Story Starter D4

Father had whipped me again last night. But despite my dizziness and pain, I must still make it to school. So far, I had been able to hide my bruises and cuts, so no one had been suspicious.

When I was born, my mother had named me Joanna. Following my birth, my mother never recovered. Afterwards, she passed away. For reasons I do not know, my father blamed me. He beat me, belittled me and he himself became a drunk. One evening, when my father was intoxicated, he cut off my hair and proclaimed that I was now his son that he had always wanted, and that Joanna was dead. So to the rest of the world, I am Jo, a quiet, useless young boy.

Suggestions:

-Joanna was discovered when she got terribly sick at school and passed out.

-Joanna returned home one day to find that her father was dead. Afraid that someone may think she killed him, she runs away.

-Eventually she breaks down and tells a kid at school everything. The child soon spreads the word, and the parents in town get angry at her father.
